Besides on-site simultaneous Interpretation meaning interpretation services with physical presence of the interpreter, interpretation can be performed also in a remote way. Especially during the pandemics, the accent was put on so called RSI or Remote Simultaneous interpretation. In the meanwhile there are plenty of platforms making RSI easier than in pre-pandemic times.

Still, some requirements have to be met by the client and by the interpreter in order to ensure the best possible product.

Ideally the client shall:

enable visual contact to the speaker and audience
enable that interpreters see presentations and the like
enable top speed internet connection
prevent environmental sounds like phones ringing, or service personnel or parallel speaking
organize high-quality platform for RSI
perform a test interpretation before the event involving all actors – interpreters, organizers and technicians

Ideally the interpreters shall:

ensure two fast internet connections
use high-quality equipment (e.g. as proposed by the AIIC)
use microphones that have environmental sound cancelation and mute option
know the functions of the platform, and in not known timely request instructions and test it
register a verified profile before the platform is used (KUDO for example)
ensure the best possible insulation of their working space
